Day 8: Chatuchak Weekend Market

As soon as we arrived in Bangkok, Karla and I immediately looked for the A1/A2 bus to take us to the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Karla was most excited about this part of our trip because she would have the chance to shop until she dropped. I, on the other hand, managed to buy only a few things. The shopaholic side of me was already content with my shopping stint in Cambodia. It was so easy to get lost in the maze of stalls in the market. The array of items on sale were overwhelming too. It was a fun experience, but I honestly found Chatuchak Market more expensive than the prices in our local Divisoria or Greenhills. Karla and I found it hard to haggle with the sellers because they would either completely ignore us or act rude if we tried to haggle.

Karla’s shopping bags kept piling up until it rained and we were forced to find somewhere where we can wait it out. We found Toh Plue Restaurant among the maze of stalls and decided to eat dinner there. The staff asked us what country we came from when they took our order. It turns out that they put little flags of their patron’s orders. It was a nice touch that made me miss home 🙂

I can’t remember what this is, but it was so yummy!

Tired but very satisfied with our shopping spree, Karla and I headed to the hostel to rest for the activities of the next day.

Our Accommodation: Lub D Siam Square

I love Lub D because of its facilities and its accessibility. It stands right next to Siam Square BTS Station so it’s very easy to find and very easy to commute from the hostel. It is also near various establishments like the MBK Mall, 7 Eleven, a massage house and a culture center. Lub D is one of the most popular and well loved hostels in Bangkok which is why we didn’t hesitate to spend our nights here.

I love the laid back vibe where guests can hang out

Laundry facilities which I was able to use when I ran out of clean clothes 🙂

I booked our rooms 2 months before via their website to avail of the early bird discount. We only paid around Php 500 per night per head from its original price of Php 800. Karla and I got beds from the mixed dorm but it wasn’t a problem since we were the only ones in our room during our stay.

Indochina 10-Day Backpacking Budget and Itinerary

I went on a 10-day Indochina trip with friends last September. Upon my return, several people have asked me how much I spent on this trip. So I decided to share our budget and itinerary before I create detailed blog posts about the countries we visited. I tried my best to record everything that we paid for on our trip and the conversion rates I used are as of September 2015 with a little bit of padding.

How much did I spend?

I spent a of total of Php 39,000 for visiting 4 countries: Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar. This includes all the airfare, taxes, tours, transportation, accommodation, meals and PASALUBONG! 😀
