My Book Depository Experience

For a few years now, my experience with Book Depository has only been limited to browsing through their collections because most of the books I wanted were available in local book stores. It wasn’t until recently when I discovered calligraphy that I realized there were limited calligraphy books available in the Philippines.

Mastering Copperplate Calligraphy by Eleanor Winters is a highly recommended book for beginners. I began searching for it at local bookstores but it wasn’t available anywhere. The bookstores told me that they could order a copy for me but it was pricey. So for the first time, I turned to Book Depository to make my purchase. Their promise of free worldwide shipping is also a very strong plus. I already made an account ages ago and I simply had to remember my password in order to start shopping (you can also shop here as a guest but I prefer the convenience of having my details readily available).

Here is the timeline of my Book Depository experience:

Aug 16: I searched for and placed my order for the book of my choice at the site. The website is very user friendly. I didn’t have any trouble searching for buttons and what-not. They accept all major credit cards but I paid through Paypal for the added security.

Aug 17: The order confirmation was sent to my email with instructions to check my details to ensure that my order was correct. I didn’t mind the slight delay to the confirmation email since I placed my order very late the night before (and it was the weekend).

Aug 20: I received an email informing me that my order has been dispatched. Book Depository’s ETA for my order is 7-10 business days. I didn’t believe this knowing the delays of the post office. It will arrive when it arrives. All I have to do now is wait. 🙂

Sep 12: After 23 days (including weekends), my book finally arrived! I was in El Nido at this time. Luckily my mother was at home to receive the package. She wasn’t asked to pay any tax or customs fee — I believe that books are exempted from these. The book arrived in great condition thanks to the sturdy packaging by Book Depository.

The packaging. Sorry for the blurred photo. The silver lining is I didn't have to blur my address from this :P

Overall, my experience with Book Depository was great! This transaction was very simple and hassle-free. I am looking forward to my next book (or books!) from them 🙂
